Today, Muscatine native and first-time candidate Taylor Wettach reported raising more than $175,000 just 24 hours after announcing his campaign for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming excitement that has been shared with us in the last 24 hours. We are building a movement of folks who believe we can do better than the status quo,” said Taylor Wettach. “Iowans are making clear that they are ready for a new generation of leadership that understands the challenges facing our communities, from the rising costs of housing and healthcare to childcare and groceries. People are ready for something new. I will put Iowa first by taking on corporate interests, party bosses, and politicians who prioritize their wealthy donors over access to affordable healthcare, lower costs for hardworking Iowans, and Social Security for our seniors.”
In sharp contrast, Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ career has been funded by wealthy corporations and political party bosses. Miller-Meeks has consistently put her wealthiest donors first, voting to gut Medicaid coverage for over 100,000 Iowans and threatening to close four rural hospitals – all to fund tax breaks for billionaires and corporations – just last week.
Wettach, a seventh-generation Iowan and international trade and national security lawyer, is committed to earning Iowans’ votes across the district, from urban centers to rural communities like the one he grew up in. He will fight for an economy that works for Iowa families, make good on our promise to our seniors by protecting Social Security, and ensure that Iowans can access affordable healthcare no matter where they live.
ABOUT TAYLOR
Growing up in Muscatine, Taylor learned the importance of serving his community from his parents, a preschool teacher and family doctor, and from his faith. His commitment to service led him to a career in law fighting for economic security, human rights, and the rule of law. After his employer caved to Trump and cut a deal to do his legal work for free, Taylor quit his job. Taylor is running for Congress to stand up for Iowans against the damage being done by chaos in Washington and Miller-Meeks’ failed policies that have led to soaring prices on groceries, housing, childcare, and everyday essentials.
