A north-central Iowa farmer says weed pressure has been a mixed bag this year.
Brent Renner tells Brownfield every field has been different on his farm.
“Depending on what you experience for planting conditions,” he said. “We had some residue issues with soybeans that didn’t allow those beans to get up and going the way we like. And then some didn’t get sprayed as soon as we liked with a pre-emerge.”
He says some recent rains have halted post emergence herbicide applications.
“It’s been a challenge to get out there in a timely fashion,” Renner said. “Unfortunately, it seems like every year we’ve got different challenges. One is always getting out soon enough to make sure some of these weeds that may be resistant to some chemistries that we have available to us get done soon enough that we don’t have resistance issues continue to get worse.”
Renner raises corn, soybeans, and cattle near Klemme in Hancock County.
