The Fairfield City Council held its final meeting of the month on Monday night.
After the consent agenda was approved, Jennifer Hamilton of Fairfield Cares was the first to speak in the public forum part of the meeting. Hamilton gave the council a brief overview of Fairfield Cares which was formed in 2018. The organization seeks to help with at-home care, especially for the elderly. Hamilton says a key addition to Fairfield Cares is Helpful Village, a comprehensive software platform designed to support aging-in-place communities, commonly known as “Villages.” It centralizes essential functions such as volunteer coordination, event management, membership tracking, and communication, allowing organizations to operate more efficiently and focus on delivering valuable services to their members. A full presentation of Helpful Village will be on March 26 and Hamilton invited the entire community to attend.
The council approved April 14 as the date for a public hearing of capital improvement projects for the 2026 fiscal year.
The contract for the Walton Golf Club bridge project was awarded to Drish Construction, whose estimate of 196,435 falls under the $200,000 engineer’s estimate for the project.
The council decided to table a vote for an updated code of business conduct policy so a more in-depth discussion can be had regarding a couple of sections in the policy.
A representative from the Iowa League of Cities announced that Kate Miller, a Fairfield seventh-grader, was the district grand prize winner of “If I Were a Mayor” essay. Miller received a plaque and also a $500 scholarship.
