Ottumwa Schools plans to ‘Gold Out to Tackle Childhood Cancer’ on Friday, October 25, for the football game versus Waterloo West at Schafer Stadium. High schools across the country have hosted “gold games” to create awareness of families with childhood cancer. Ottumwa held its first ‘Gold Game’ a few years ago to support an Ottumwa Schools alumni’s family facing the battle against childhood cancer.
This year, the Ottumwa iJAG students are leading the initiative to raise both awareness and funds for children battling cancer. An apparel fundraiser, sold through pre-orders online at: https://www.acegraphics.shop/gold-out-for-childhood-cancer will benefit the University of Iowa’s Pediatrics Oncology Department. iJAG students are also selling cardstock ribbons to create a display of support, with 100% of those proceeds to benefit families fighting cancer.
Fans are encouraged to wear gold in support of the cause to the football team’s last scheduled home game on October 25. The Freshman team kicks off at 4:45 pm, followed by the Varsity game at 7:30 pm at Schafer Stadium.
