Shirley Ann Cook, 75, of Fremont, died at 4:05 a.m. October 8, 2024 at Vista Woods Care Center

She was born September 10, 1949 in Ottumwa to Herbert “Pete” and Gladys Lakka Bagg. She married James L. Cook October 18, 2008 and he preceded her in death March 11, 2016.

A graduate of Walsh High School and Buena Vista University, Shirley worked 21 years for Union Bank, 7 years for Ottumwa Food Bank, 12 years for O’Hara Hardware and 7 years for Americus Diamond in Fairfield.

Shirley was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation and an honorary life member of O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion. She enjoyed raising dogs.

Surviving are her cousins, Nancy Knollenberg of Chicago, IL, Connie DeKock of Oskaloosa, Marilyn Dekock of Oskaloosa, Marti Huber of West Des Moines and Kathy Harding of Eddyville; brothers-in-law, Bob (Marlene) Cook of Des Moines and William (Suellen) Cook of Naperville, IL; sisters-in-law, Karen (Bill) Merchant of Ottumwa, Janet Cook of Ames and Barbara Holland of Hedrick; as well as 7 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12th at Reece Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12th at Reece Funeral Home with Father Ben Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
