A convicted Ottumwa man attempted to steal from a vehicle and was found with drugs after running from police.
31-year-old Angel Buckles was charged with 3rd degree theft, possession of a controlled substance, and interference with official acts.
On July 18 at 4:08 a.m, court records say Buckles stole a knife from the victims vehicle on West Mary Street. Authorities say Buckles attempted to run from police but his bag was siezed and the knife was found.
According to police, a search was conducted in Buckles bag and 1.2 grams of methamphetamine was located.
Court records say Buckles has two prior convictions of theft dating April 2018 and May 2024.
Buckles was taken to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released.
