The History of Spinning and its Influence on America

October 13, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

BLAKESBURG–“The History of Spinning and its Influence on America” with experienced presenter, Wilma Frey will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, October 13 at Blakesburg United Methodist Church 314 S. High Street, Blakesburg. A spinner for 45 years, Frey demonstrates her art of spinning on a variety of wheels and spinning instruments while sharing the part spinning has played in culture, literature, art, law and even politics. One of many tidbits of interesting information she will share in her lecture is Benjamin Franklin gave his sister a spinning wheel as a wedding gift rather than a silver tea set.
Frey is experienced having lectured and demonstrated at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, Wisconsin Spin-in and the Iowa State Fair. She has written for the publication “Spinning Wheel Sleuth”.
The program, sponsored by Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the program. Donations are always appreciated.
