A routine traffic stop in Knoxville, Iowa late Sunday night resulted in the arrest of a Dallas woman on drug and weapons-related charges.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers observed a vehicle exiting Highway 92 onto South Lincoln Street around 9:49 p.m. The vehicle was missing both a high center brake light and license plate illumination, prompting a traffic stop.
Court documents notes Officers made contact with the male driver and a passenger, identified as 23-year-old Trinity Evans of Dallas, Iowa. The driver told authorities he had not used marijuana and gave consent to search the vehicle.
Legal filings state, when officers asked Evans to step out, she stated she was unaware of any illegal items inside. However, officers reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Criminal Complaint mentions while speaking with Evans, officers observed the contents of her open purse without moving it. In plain view, they reported seeing a firearm, a magazine, and a THC vape device. Another THC vape device was also found in the glove compartment of the vehicle.
Evans was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she is currently being held.
She is charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), first offense, a serious misdemeanor, and person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, also a serious misdemeanor.
