Gerald Michael Feldman, born July 8, 1952, passed away on March 28, 2026. Michael grew up in Fairfield, Iowa, before moving to Georgia, where he attended Emory University and was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He later moved to Washington, D.C., where he built a career with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Michael was a man who truly loved his people—his family, his friends, his coworkers, and his golf buddies. He was known for his intelligence, his strong voice, and the deep connections he built with those around him. He loved sharing stories from his high school, college, traveling, working, and golf adventures. His greatest love in life was his wife, Janis Maxwell, whom he married on October 19, 1996. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, eventually settling in Denton, Maryland, after Michael’s retirement in 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Morris Feldman, and his brother, Joseph Feldman.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janis; his stepson, Vince Gaston (Angela); his sisters-in-law, Jill Feldman; nephews, Josh and Jake Feldman; and Marsha Vaughn; along with many extended family members and dear friends. A small graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2026 at the Ottumwa Jewish Cemetery. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family.

The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACLU or World Central Kitchen in Michael’s honor.

Michael will be remembered for his warmth, his loyalty, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
