A cluster of strong thunderstorms is moving through parts of northeastern Davis County and eastern Wapello County this morning, with the most active weather expected to continue through about 8:45 a.m.
As of around 8:10 a.m., radar showed the storms located about 7 miles southwest of Batavia and roughly 8 miles southeast of Ottumwa, moving east at about 30 mph. The storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph, along with small hail around the size of a nickel and brief periods of heavy rain.
While the storms are not expected to be severe, conditions could still cause some impacts. Gusty winds may knock down small tree branches and blow around loose outdoor items. The hail could cause minor damage to plants and vegetation. Heavy rainfall may lead to water ponding on roads, reduced visibility, and small rises in creeks and streams.
Communities in the path of these storms include Ottumwa, Eldon, Agency, and Floris.
