The community is preparing to honor and remember Major Jeffrey O’Brien, an Army reservist who lost his life in service to his country.

A visitation for Major O’Brien will be held on Friday, March 20th, at Valley Church in West Des Moines. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 21st, at the same location. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, where military honors are expected to recognize his service and sacrifice.

Major O’Brien was among six U.S. soldiers killed in Kuwait in what officials have described as an Iranian drone strike. The attack occurred in the aftermath of the launch of Operation Epic Fury, a developing military operation in the region.

All six of the fallen service members were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command, a unit based out of Des Moines. Their deaths have deeply impacted not only their fellow soldiers but also communities across Iowa and beyond.

As family, friends, and fellow service members gather in the coming days, the services for Major O’Brien will serve as a time to reflect on his life, his commitment to duty, and the sacrifice he made in uniform.
