An Ottumwa woman was charged with a felony after authorities say she was driving a car while intoxicated with an infant in the vehicle.

19-year-old Taylor Durbin was charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person (Class C felony), possession of marijuana – first offense (serious misdemeanor), and operating while under the influence – first offense (serious misdemeanor).

On March 22nd at 5:41 AM, court records say officers located a vehicle driven by Durbin in a parking garage on East Second Street in Ottumwa. The car Durbin was driving was identified as suspicious, according to the criminal complaint, and a camera captured Durbin consuming alcoholic beverages before she was found by police. Additionally, officers saw an infant in the car.

Authorities say Durbin admitted to driving to the parking garage. According to court documents, Durbin displayed bloodshot, watery eyes, unsteady balance, and the odor of alcohol emitting from her person. Officials say Durbin agreed to a standardized field sobriety test that showed signs of impairment. Durbin allegedly registered a BrAC of 0.145%, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%.

An officer saw a marijuana vape in the center console. Court records say Durbin admitted the vape belonged to her.

Durbin was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. She was later freed after posting a $10,000 bond.

Durbin has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 1st.
