Law enforcement investigated a burglary involving forced entry into a home’s garage and a vehicle. The suspect was apprehended on the scene following an attempt to evade arrest.
On March 20th at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of S. Webster regarding a reported burglary.
According to the criminal complaint, 22-year-old Stone Frederick of Ottumwa entered an occupied structure with the intent to commit theft. Frederick reportedly forced entry into the victim’s garage by breaking the glass in the door. After burglarizing a vehicle on the property, he allegedly entered the garage and went through the victim’s belongings.
Court documents indicate that at approximately 4:14 p.m., Frederick failed to comply with lawful commands from a fully uniformed police officer and attempted to flee to avoid arrest. Authorities reported that Frederick was apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.
Frederick is currently being held at the Wapello County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30th.
He is charged with third-degree burglary of a motor vehicle (second or subsequent offense), a Class D felony, and third-degree burglary, also a Class D felony.
