Ottumwa Police Department Responds to Disorderly Conduct Incident Involving Reported Physical Altercation and Signs of Intoxication

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a physical altercation inside a residence. The situation resulted in an arrest and multiple misdemeanor charges.

The Ottumwa Police Department responded to a call for disorderly conduct on March 24 at approximately 11:55 p.m. at the intersection of McLean and Fourth streets.

According to the criminal complaint, officers made contact with a 23-year-old Ottumwa woman, identified as Jillian Murphy, upon arrival. Murphy had reportedly been involved in a physical altercation with another individual inside a residence, prompting someone to contact law enforcement.

Officers noted that Murphy had watery, bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on her feet. Her speech was slurred, and officers reported detecting a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. Murphy admitted to consuming alcohol.

Court documents state that Murphy was offered a Datamaster breath test but refused to submit to it.

Murphy was arrested at the scene and transported to the Wapello County Jail. She was later released.

Murphy has been charged with public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, also a simple misdemeanor.
