The Oskaloosa Police Department responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 1000 block of South 4th Street after initially being contacted about what was described as a civil issue between a couple.

According to court documents, on March 8 at approximately 2:30 p.m., Kenndal Hafele, 29, of Oskaloosa, contacted the Oskaloosa Police Department regarding a civil issue she was having with her boyfriend at their residence.

Officers responded to the home and spoke with both Hafele and her boyfriend about the situation. Police noted that when officers left the area, Hafele’s boyfriend had gone to a neighbor’s residence. At approximately 8:12 p.m., an officer reported seeing Hafele walk over to the neighbor’s house and stand at the front door.

Court records state that at about 8:16 p.m., the neighbor contacted the E911 Communications Center and reported that Hafele and her boyfriend were outside yelling at each other.

Officers with the Oskaloosa Police Department returned to the residence. As officers approached the home, one officer reported seeing two people inside the front room through a partially open window. The officer stated the window began vibrating violently, as if someone had been pushed into it, while Hafele and her boyfriend could be heard yelling.

Law enforcement reported hearing someone get shoved into the front door, causing it to vibrate, and continued to hear the argument. Officers also reported hearing Hafele say that someone had punched her in the face.

According to court documents, officers knocked on the door and Hafele answered while holding her face. Hafele told officers that her boyfriend had punched her. Hafele also admitted to throwing a cup of tea on her boyfriend and shoving him.

Authorities then spoke with Hafele’s boyfriend, who told officers that Hafele had come over to the neighbor’s home, began yelling at him, and was beating on the door. He stated he eventually left the neighbor’s residence and returned to his home, but Hafele followed him inside.

The boyfriend told officers he sat down in a chair when Hafele threw a cup of liquid on him. He also reported that Hafele shoved him into the front window and kicked him in the private area. The boyfriend further stated that Hafele grabbed him around the neck and pushed him into the front door.

He admitted to officers that he slapped Hafele in the face in order to get her off of him so he could leave the house.

Court filings note that Hafele and her boyfriend have been in a relationship for several years and had lived together for approximately the past year and a half.

Hafele was arrested and transported to the Mahaska County Jail. She was later released on a $300 cash-only bond.

A no-contact order was issued on March 9.

A pretrial conference in the case is scheduled for April 15.

Hafele is charged with assault, a simple misdemeanor.
