Mount Pleasant residents are invited to share their thoughts tonight as the Mount Pleasant Community School District Board of Education takes another step in addressing upcoming budget concerns.
The board will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center, where a public hearing on a potential tax levy adjustment will be followed by discussion beginning at 6:10 p.m. regarding the possible closure of Salem Elementary School.
The district is working to close an anticipated budget gap of approximately $1.74 million for the 2026–27 school year. Officials point to several contributing factors, including a steady decline in student enrollment, modest changes in state funding, and the conclusion of federal pandemic-related financial support.
District leaders emphasize that no final decisions have been made. Instead, tonight’s hearing is intended to give families, staff, and community members an opportunity to provide feedback before any action is taken.
Those wishing to speak during the hearing will be given up to three minutes to address the board.
Additional details, including the meeting agenda and guidelines for public comment, can be found on the district’s official website.
