Mary Irene Wemmie, 81, of Ottumwa died at 8:50 p.m. March 12, 2026 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born November 6, 1944 in Creston to Cecil T. and Grace Ellen Page Yarrington. She married Paul George Wemmie June 29, 1969.
A graduate of Bridgewater High School, Mary and Paul moved to Batavia in 1971. They attended Calvary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Awana’s. More recently they attended Floris Baptist Church where she taught Kid’s Club and Vacation Bible School.
Surviving is her husband, Paul; their children, Rebekah (Nathan) Rueck of Warsaw, IN, John (Katy) Wemmie of Bloomfield, Steven (Deanna) Wemmie of Eldon and Elizabeth (Kelley) Werts of Russell; 9 grandchildren, Andrew, Timmy, Samuel and Sarah Rueck, Anna, Laura and Alex Wemmie, Heidi Wemmie and Ethan Werts; 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth Yarrington of Casey, Eileen Beaman of Greenfield, Nancy (Sam) Green of Yakima, WA, Billy Yarrington and Dick Yarrington both of Corning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Richard Beaman; and a sister-in-law, Marie Yarrington.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18th at Reece Funeral Home with Revs. Tom Cope and Jack Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Her family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet friends.
Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
