Residents across Iowa and Nebraska are being reminded not to panic Wednesday morning as a scheduled tornado drill takes place statewide.

Officials with the National Weather Service say outdoor warning sirens and weather radios may activate at 10:00 a.m. as part of the annual drill during Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The exercise is designed to help communities, schools, businesses, and families practice their emergency plans in the event of severe weather. Authorities encourage everyone to take the drill seriously by identifying safe shelter locations, reviewing safety procedures, and ensuring weather alert systems are working properly.

Emergency management officials stress that this is only a test, but it serves as an important reminder that severe weather season is approaching. Being prepared ahead of time can make a critical difference when real storms threaten the area.
