U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says there are ways Congress and the Trump administration can take pressure off rising fertilizer and fuel prices.
“Take countervailing duties off of fertilizers (and) get E15 year-round nationwide, and right now we’re told that it’s got to be connected to another bill.”
The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield the conflict in the Middle East is driving up the cost of ag inputs, so including E15 legislation in a military spending bill makes sense.
Congress is also considering a second round of farmer bridge assistance payments.
“So that $14 billion that E15 year-round will bring into agriculture would be even a better way to get it than the $15 billion that they’re talking about putting in with the Iran money.”
Grassley says passing nationwide year-round E15 and providing more aid to farmers would be even better.
