The USDA says U.S. milk production rose again in February.

The National Agriculture Statistics Service says the 24 major milk-producing states made 17.6 billion pounds of milk, 3.1% more than a year ago and 3.6% higher than a month ago.  USDA also revised its January production figure to 19.1 billion pounds.

Nationwide, production was 18.3 billion pounds, up 2.9% over last year.

Production per cow averaged 1,899 pounds last month, twelve pounds more than in February of 2025.

There were 9.62 million head of milk cows in February, 211,000 head more than February 2025, and 15,000 head more than January 2026.

There were no surprises in the production categories.  California remains the top milk producer with 3.16 billion pounds produced, followed by Wisconsin with 2.54 billion pounds.  Michigan cows still have the most milk-per-cow on average, with 2,135 pounds per cow, followed by Texas and Arizona.
