KMCD 1570 AM and Classic 96, two longtime fixtures of Fairfield’s local radio landscape, are set to leave the airwaves on Tuesday, March 31, ending more than 65 years of broadcasting in the community.
Station manager Steve Smith announced the news on social media, expressing gratitude to listeners.
“After more than 65 wonderful years, KMCD/Classic 96 is set to leave the airwaves Tuesday,” Smith wrote. “It has been an honor serving our community. I am deeply grateful for your loyalty and allowing me for being part of your daily listening choice for all these years. While the stations are going dark, the memories of fun and friendships will remain with me always.”
KMCD, which primarily broadcasts a classic country format, is owned by Connoisseur Media through licensee Alpha Media Licensee LLC. The station has changed hands several times over the years. In 2007, the Fairfield Media Group sold the station to GoodRadio.TV LLC. In December 2013, GoodRadio.TV merged into Digity LLC, which was then acquired by Alpha Media in February 2016 as part of a $264 million deal covering 124 radio stations. Connoisseur Media announced its intent to acquire Alpha Media in May 2025, with the FCC approving the sale on August 13, 2025 and the transaction closing on September 4th.
