The Fairfield Art Association (FAA) will open two new student art exhibits beginning April 3rd at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, featuring artwork created by students from Fairfield High School and Pekin Community Schools.

The FHS 2026 Annual Art Show will be displayed in the Main Gallery and will feature numerous pieces created by Fairfield High School students from a variety of art classes. The exhibit will showcase a wide range of mediums including charcoal, acrylic, oil, watercolor, colored pencil, clay, and ink.

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3rd, at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Fairfield High School art instructor David Kraemer encouraged students, families, and community members to attend the event.

“Please come and see the outstanding works created by our FHS art students,” Kraemer said.

In addition to the high school exhibit, Pekin seventh-grade students will have their artwork displayed in the Hallway Gallery at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. The exhibit will include drawings created with charcoal and pastels along with clay food sculptures.

Pekin art instructor Matt Guise said he is excited to share his students’ artwork with the community. Guise also teaches a “Young Art Class” twice each month on Mondays in the Fairfield Art Association studio.

Both Kraemer and Guise serve on the Fairfield Art Association Board.

The Fairfield Art Association is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, marking six decades of exhibits featuring artwork from the Fairfield school system. Over the years, the district has built a strong reputation for its art department and talented student artists, many of whom have received recognition across Iowa and later pursued careers using their artistic skills.

FAA also offers two art-related scholarships to Fairfield High School seniors, both named after former FHS art teachers. One scholarship honors Don Kremer, while the other is awarded in memory of Mark Shafer.

Fairfield sophomore Bella Jaeger created the fish art, and Fairfield sophomore Lelan Blomme created the typewriter art.
