Charles “Chuck” Leroy Shimer, born on July 5, 1957, in Creston, Iowa, lived a life full of love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the open roads.

A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Chuck was a man of simple pleasures and profound love for his family. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and an enduring passion for the roar of an engine and the thrill of a good race. Chuck spent most of his career navigating the highways and byways of our great nation as a truck driver. His love for the open road was only second to his love for his family. He married the love of his life, Karyn Dwyer, on October 26, 1996, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and a shared love for car tinkering.

Chuck was an avid NASCAR fan, relishing in the excitement of each race, and often found himself lost in car shows on television. He also found joy in the simple art of bowling.

Above all, his greatest joy was playing with his cherished granddaughter, Willow, creating memories that will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his wife, Karyn of Moravia; one daughter, Kaitlyn Shimer; one granddaughter, Willow Shimer; two bothers, Carl (Dawn) Shimer, Robert Shimer; several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virg and Evelyn Shimer; one son, Richard Shimer; two brothers, Patrick and Bill Shimer. From the hum of a car engine to the echoes of laughter shared during time spent with family, Chucks’ spirit lives on in the memories and stories that his loved ones hold dear.

Chuck has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. We welcome all who knew and loved Chuck to share their memories and upload photos on his memorial page. Your stories and images are an important part of celebrating Chucks’ life and keeping his memory alive.
