Four state FFA officers were educating the public about U.S. agriculture during this year’s National Ag Day celebration.

Iowa FFA State President Chloe Zittergruen says there is a knowledge gap between producers and consumers.

“We need the 2 percent that are feeding us every single day,” she says. “Our food does not come from the grocery store. It comes from a family farm, and that family is farming to feed themselves, but also everyone else at the same time.”

Zittergruen and Indiana FFA state secretary Lauren Argotte were selected to promote agricultural education through the National FFA Organization’s Speak Ag Pioneer program.

Argotte says supporting ag education is critical to the future of the industry.

“It’s preparing the next generation of leaders to enter the workforce,” she says. “They’re going to be the ones that are providing the next generation’s growth and seeing how we can continue supporting agriculture and the people that produce our food, fuel, and fiber.”

Thirteen students were selected to be apart of this year’s SpeakAg Pioneer program to promote agricultural advocacy and literacy to FFA members and the general public by hosting workshops, creating content for social media, and attending events.
