Juergens spoke to Brownfield at the 2026 Iowa Pork Congress.
A western Iowa pork producer says profitability is helping boost morale across the industry.
Aaron Juergens manages more than 100,000 nursery and finishing pig spaces for Sunburst Valley Farms near Carroll.
“It was a better year for pork producers. There was money being made and that was due to the fact that we’ve been working really hard over the last 3 years to push demand.”
Juergens, who’s also a past president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association, tells Brownfield the recent run of profitability came at an important time.
“There was a couple years where there was a hole dug. It’s good to get back. If we can just get another year or two underneath our belt of consistent profitability, it’s going to help make things go a long ways.”
He says demand strength will be key to maintaining the current positive trend.
