Law enforcement responded to a reported stabbing at a residential address involving a domestic dispute. The incident resulted in an adult victim sustaining a stab wound, and multiple children were present inside the home at the time. An investigation led to criminal charges related to assault and child endangerment.

On January 30 at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Oskaloosa Police Department was dispatched to the 900 block of South 11th Street following a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who was observed to have a fresh puncture and laceration wound to his upper arm, located just below the shoulder between the bicep and tricep. The wound was actively bleeding through the victim’s sweatshirt as he applied pressure. Officers noted the injury was consistent with a sharp-force injury, such as a stab wound.

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement ordered Tiffany Smith, 33, of Oskaloosa, to exit the residence. The victim reported that during a verbal argument inside the home, Smith—identified as the mother of four of the victim’s children—armed herself with a hunting knife approximately six inches in length and intentionally stabbed him in the arm.

Court filings indicate that at the time of the incident, one juvenile child was within arm’s reach of both parents. Two additional minor children were in a nearby room, while another minor child was upstairs during the altercation.

Smith was advised of her Miranda rights and admitted to stabbing the victim. The victim was transported to Mahaska Health Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

A no-contact order was issued on January 31. An order for release of custody was filed on February 2. Bond was later set at $17,000 cash only on February 10, the same date a preliminary hearing is scheduled.

Smith was subsequently transported to the Mahaska County Jail, where she is currently being held.

Smith is charged with four counts of child endangerment resulting in bodily injury, Class D felonies; one count of willful injury causing bodily injury, a Class D felony; and one count of domestic abuse assault displaying or using a weapon, first offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.
