Motorists in Pella should plan for a temporary road closure near East 1st Street and University Street as utility work gets underway later this week.
The Electric Department will be replacing a damaged transmission pole at the intersection, requiring East 1st Street to be closed between Huber and Peace streets, along with University Street from Main Street to East 2nd Street. The Pella Public Works Department says crews will work to maintain driveway access for residents throughout the closure whenever possible.
The shutdown is scheduled to start Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to wrap up by approximately 5:30 p.m., though timing could change due to weather conditions or unforeseen issues. Ahead of the full closure, brief work activity is planned for late Thursday afternoon or evening to install protective grounding in the area.
Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and remain alert for crews and equipment in the work zone.
