A verbal argument between a couple that turned physical resulted in the arrest of an Ottumwa man, according to court records.
24-year-old Spencer Myers was charged with willful injury, a Class D felony.
On December 29th, the Ottumwa Police Department say it received a call regarding a domestic disturbance at a residence on Asbury Avenue. A female at the scene told responding officers that a verbal argument with Myers escalated into a physical incident.
Myers is accused of hitting the complainant in the face with his hands, choking her, kicking her, and punching her in the stomach. Prior to the alleged assault, the victim told police she informed Myers that she was pregnant but he told her he did not want the baby.
A warrant for Myers’ arrest was issued on December 30th and he was taken into custody on January 2nd.
Myers was transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bond is set at $5,000. He’s been ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
