Police: Armed Ottumwa Man Caused Disturbance, Resisted Arrest

An Ottumwa man was arrested near the JBS Sports Center after allegedly causing a disturbance while armed with a gun.

19-year-old Amir Sutton was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (aggravated misdemeanor), first-degree harassment (aggravated misdemeanor), and interference with official acts while armed with a firearm (Class D felony).

The Ottumwa Police Department says officers were called to the facility just after 7:00 PM on Friday based on a report that a man, later determined to be Sutton, was creating a commotion while possessing a firearm.

According to authorities, Sutton attempted to run away from the officers who were investigating the incident and resisted law enforcement’s attempts to place him in handcuffs.

Sutton was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bail was set at $9,000.
