Pella Police Take Action in Response to Assault During Confrontation

A recent confrontation escalated into violence, resulting in injuries and legal charges.

On January 3rd, at approximately 10:35 AM, the Pella Police Department responded to an incident involving Weston Witzenburg, 36, residing on the 100 block of W. 1st Street. The situation unfolded when the victim, who had traveled from Michigan, sent photographs of Witzenburg’s residence to his girlfriend, who is also the victim’s ex-wife. Upon receiving these photos, Witzenburg’s girlfriend alerted him, prompting him to take action.

Witzenburg, armed with a baseball bat, confronted the victim, who was reportedly sitting in a vehicle in the Pella Corporation parking lot. This encounter escalated into a physical altercation between the two individuals. According to the police complaint, Witzenburg struck the victim in the head with the baseball bat, resulting in a laceration that caused significant bleeding.

Following the assault, the victim sought medical attention at the Pella Emergency Room, where he received staples to treat his injury. In light of the events, Witzenburg was arrested and is currently being held at the Marion County Jail. He has a cash/surety bond set at $5,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 8th. Additionally, a no-contact order was issued on January 5th. Witzenburg has been charged with willful injury, a Class D felony, for causing bodily injury to the victim.
