Due to extremely cold temperatures and concerns for student and staff safety, the Ottumwa Community School District (OCSD) has announced that Friday, January 23, 2026, will be a Virtual Learning Day for all students.
There will be no in-person classes on Friday. Students are instructed to remain at home and complete their coursework online or by using learning packets previously provided by their teachers. District officials said teachers will be available to assist students as needed throughout the day, and attendance may be tracked through assignment completion.
Families seeking more information about instructional expectations during virtual learning days are encouraged to review the OCSD Virtual Learning Plan, which outlines participation requirements and instructional time guidelines.
District officials emphasized that the decision was made with safety as the top priority and reminded families to take precautions during the dangerously cold conditions.
Friday, January 23, 2026, is a Virtual Learning Day, and all students should plan accordingly. The district urges everyone to stay safe and warm.
