Ottumwa Police are investigating an incident involving online communication with a minor. Authorities report the case involves the alleged transmission of obscene material through social media.
On December 22 at approximately 6:29 p.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 2200 block of Roemer Avenue for an investigation.
According to authorities, Sara Allen, 19, of Ottumwa, had been communicating with an underage victim through the social media platform Snapchat. Law enforcement reported that Allen sent the victim explicit images and a video through the application.
The criminal complaint states that Allen knowingly disseminated obscene material to a minor using social media.
A warrant was served on Allen on January 25. She is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $1,000 cash-only bond.
No preliminary hearing has been scheduled at this time.
Allen is charged with dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to minors, a serious misdemeanor.
