A Ottumwa man was arrested in Ottumwa following an incident involving the destruction of property and resistance to law enforcement.

On January 15th, at approximately 7:27 PM, the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Albia Road in response to a report of criminal mischief. Upon arrival, officers found Jason Pierson, 48, of Ottumwa, who admitted to damaging a security camera belonging to the victim. The estimated cost of the damaged camera is approximately $30.

Court documents reveal that when law enforcement attempted to arrest Pierson, he did not comply with multiple lawful orders issued by uniformed officials. Instead, Pierson resisted arrest by pulling his arms away, leading to a struggle. As a result of his actions, an officer sustained a small laceration on the face.

Pierson was subsequently transported to the Wapello County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $5,000 cash/surety bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 26th. He faces charges including assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury, a Class D felony; interference with official acts causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor; and criminal mischief in the 5th degree, a simple misdemeanor.
