The National 4-H Council’s Beyond Ready initiative is helping 4-H youth across the country prepare for their future careers.
Taylor Thigpen, a member of the Young Alumni Advisory Committee, says the organization helped him develop a passion for agricultural sustainability.
“I gained skills in cross-cultural connection, which has really helped me with project development in over five continents,” he says. “I also gained empathy and leadership skills. 4-Hers aren’t just prepared to lead in the future, they’re leading today and they’re the changemakers in their communities.”
He tells Brownfield the program also helped develop his educational goals.
“It got me interested in going to college,” he says. “I’m a first generation college student and because of our partnership with land-grant universities, it exposed me to what higher education could be like and the opportunities it could offer.”
The National 4-H Council’s Beyond Ready initiative provides career readiness and professional development activities for students in all 50 states.
