A fatal accident occurred west of Fairfield on Saturday evening, claiming the life of a teenage girl and injuring two other individuals. The Iowa State Patrol reports that a Fairfield resident was driving a 2009 Lexus E350 northbound on Hemlock Avenue around 10:20 p.m. near Cedar Creek when she lost control of the vehicle due to hazardous weather conditions.
A 2025 Dodge truck operated by a 20-year-old Fairfield resident then collided with the side of the car. The teenage driver, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers—a 25-year-old Fairfield resident and a 24-year-old Urbana, Iowa resident—sustained injuries in the crash. According to the State Patrol, one passenger was also unbelted and was taken by Jefferson County Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital for treatment. The other passenger did not require hospital transport.
The incident remains under investigation. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Ambulance, Fairfield Police and Fire departments, and the Libertyville Fire Department.
