Connie Sue Mathias, 76, of Chillicothe died January 18, 2026 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
She was born September 16, 1949 in Ottumwa to Harold and Helen Nevins Worth. She married Melvin L. Mathias September 23, 1967 in Avery, IA and he preceded her in death February 25, 2018.
She attended Eddyville High School and graduated from Albia High School in 1967. Connie had worked as a cook at Cooper’s Corner in Chillicothe and she had worked at Tenco.
Connie was a member of Kirkville Community Church.
She enjoyed serving at Blessings Soup Kitchen, volunteering and being involved with the women’s group, all with her church. Connie also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, fishing, camping and taking vacations. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great granddaughters.
Surviving are her children, Melinda “Mindy” (Jeffrey) Moore of rural Blakesburg and Mark (Lindsay) Mathias of Ottumwa; 2 grandchildren, Megan (Randy) Armstrong and Connor McDonough; 3 great grandchildren, Tamsin, Loren and Raegen Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ruth Ann Arnold; and a brother, Rick Worth.
Visitation will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday January 23rd at Reece Funeral Home. Family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service Saturday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday January 24th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Morrison officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery in Chillicothe.
