The Iowa Board of Nursing has charged a western Iowa nurse with acting in a manner that may be harmful to patients.

The board has charged Larae Marie Pemberton, 60, of Spencer with committing an act that might adversely affect the physical or psychosocial welfare of a patient, and with failing to assess or report the status of a patient.

The board has not disclosed any information about the alleged conduct that gave rise to the charges or when it may have occurred. Board records indicate the investigation into Pemberton’s conduct was initiated in 2024.

According to the board, Pemberton has been a licensed practical nurse since 2003.

Board records indicate the charges against Pemberton were approved in July 2025, but were only recently made public. A hearing in the case is scheduled for April 24, 2026.

Pemberton declined to comment on the case when contacted Friday by the Iowa Capital Dispatch.
