A domestic disturbance prompted law enforcement to investigate an incident at a residence, uncovering an assault involving a family member.
On December 18th at approximately 9:30 PM, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the 400 block of Elm Street in response to a report of domestic abuse.
Upon arrival, deputies found 23-year-old Cody Allen of Farmington intoxicated. Allen admitted to authorities that he had assaulted his grandfather, with whom he resides. According to the sheriff’s report, Allen threw a remote control at his grandfather, an act that the victim found offensive.
As a result, Allen was arrested and is currently being detained at the Van Buren County Jail. He faces charges of domestic abuse assault—1st offense, a simple misdemeanor. A no-contact order has been issued, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 5th. No bond has been set at this time.
