Fairfield played host to Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) District 5 competition on Saturday, December 6th, welcoming students from across southern Iowa for a full day of business-related contests and presentations.
Organizers say the event was a success, made possible by the efforts of student competitors, advisors, judges, and volunteers who helped ensure the competition ran smoothly. Students competed in a wide range of events designed to test their skills in business knowledge, communication, and professional presentation.
Several Fairfield students earned top finishes, with first- and second-place competitors advancing to the FBLA State Leadership Conference scheduled for March.
Fairfield competitors claimed first-place finishes in multiple categories. Aiden Holthus, Sawyer McCready, and Ben Strickland placed first in Business Ethics. Arissa Pohren earned a first-place finish in Graphic Design, while Emry Dorothy and Olivia Manning took first in Introduction to Business Presentation. Valerie Hernandez and Tula Sorflaten earned first place in Sales Presentation. Aja Dorothy and Kayla Karangi placed first in Visual Design, Mareyn Dunkin won Website Design, Cormac Van Pelt earned first in Introduction to Retail and Merchandising, Olivia Manning placed first in Introduction to FBLA, and McKenna Stacy took first in Introduction to Business Communication.
Second-place finishes for Fairfield included Elliott Ward in Introduction to Public Speaking and Brenna Golden in Public Speaking. Hailey Bowman, Kate Brecount, and Aislinn Wise earned second place in Social Media Strategies, and Arissa Pohren added a second-place finish in Website Design.
Fairfield students also earned third-place results, with Ulysses Ascencio Solis and Sofia Eisenbraun placing in Graphic Design, and Anshal Waychal finishing third in Introduction to Public Speaking.
In addition to Fairfield, several other schools had students place in top five at the competition, including Chariton, Oskaloosa, Pleasantville, Melcher-Dallas, Maharishi School, Davis County, Seymour, Ottumwa, Mormon Trail, and Fort Madison.
