An agronomist with Brevant Seeds says weather conditions have been mostly favorable for Iowa corn farmers.
John Long tells Brownfield the state has received adequate amounts of moisture for pollination.
“Cool nights with plentiful moisture,” he said. “It’s a tremendous looking crop right now. As of right now, I would tell you in my 33 year career that it’s one of the better looking crops I’ve seen at this point.”
But he says tar spot could start to develop due to recent cool and wet weather patterns.
“Tar spot is what we need to keep the focus on. It can be very dramatically yield robbing if we don’t take care of that.”
Long says farmers need to scout for the disease the rest of the growing season.
