Not all growers are planning to shift to more corn acres this year.
Southeast Iowa farmer Tim Meyer tells Brownfield he has no plans to disrupt what’s been working for him on his operation.
“I would hate to throw things out of rotation just for pure speculation for what I’d think the markets are going to do.”
But he says he can see why some growers would shift their planting intentions.
“I do understand corn is potentially a more profitable commodity than soybeans, but for us we didn’t change any acres. We’re going to stay with what we had last year.”
The USDA recently estimated 2025 corn planted area at 95.3 million acres, up 5 percent from last year. Soybean planted area was projected at 83.5 million acres, down 4 percent from 2024.
