A Chicago man is facing multiple felony charges after an armed confrontation and large drug seizure Friday afternoon at a Davenport hotel, according to Scott County Court records.

Winston Wilbanks, 37, was arrested following a disturbance involving a firearm at the Relax Inn, 6310 Brady Street, shortly before 2 p.m. Davenport Police say Wilbanks was present when a co-defendant became involved in an altercation with another individual.

According to arrest affidavits, Wilbanks pulled a firearm from a backpack and pointed it at the victim. A struggle ensued, during which a shot was fired. The victim was able to disarm Wilbanks, who then fled the scene on foot.

Witnesses told police they saw Wilbanks struggling to maintain control of the gun before running away and climbing over a fence. Wilbanks was last seen entering a light blue or gray newer model Ford Bronco parked near the hotel.

Investigators later located the vehicle parked behind a residence in the 600 block of West 61st Street. Wilbanks was found at a nearby residence, police said.

During a search of the residence, police found a light brown Carhartt coat matching the description of one worn by Wilbanks. Keys to the Ford Bronco were located in the coat pocket.

A search of the Bronco revealed a significant quantity of illegal drugs, police say, including:

  • 845.5 grams of methamphetamine packaged for distribution
  • 513 ecstasy pills, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine
  • 68 grams of marijuana, also packaged for distribution

None of the drugs had the required state drug tax stamps affixed, according to court records.

Wilbanks, a convicted felon, now faces multiple felony charges, including:

  • Three counts of controlled-substance violations
  • Three counts of failure to affix a drug tax stamp
  • Going armed with intent
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Assault while displaying a dangerous weapon (aggravated misdemeanor)

Wilbanks remains in the Scott County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 15 in Scott County Court.
