Sylvia “SoVee” Lopez, age 88, of Des Moines, formerly of Centerville, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022 at the Suncrest Hospice in Des Moines.
SoVee was born August 9th, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mabel (Mutchler) Maples.
SoVee worked many years as a dental assistant until she retired, and eventually joined the ranks of Foster Parents.
SoVee is survived by her daughter, Nicole Miedl; her grandchildren, Malachi, Aleah, and Alexander Linson; her son, Billy Schmidt Sr; grandsons, Billy Schmidt jr., Gage Schmidt, and Peyton Schmidt; God Daughter, Brittany Schmidt; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and cherished her as well as several foster children of whom she loved.
Preceded in death by her husband Phil; and her parents, Mabel and Jim Maples. Sylvia Mae, nicknamed “SoVee” by her husband many years ago was the last survivor of her siblings, her sisters, Mary Wright, Estelle (Billy) Morgan, Helen Franks, Gloria Anderson and her 1/2 sister Belle Baker, as well as her two brothers, James Maples, Donald Maples, and a brother who died in infancy.
Per Sylvia’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. Services will be held at Empty Tomb, 2424 K Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68107 on Sunday, October 2, 2022 from 12-3PM.
