Leopold Bench Building Workshop

September 9, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Leopold Bench Building Workshop

Aldo Leopold said in A Sand County Almanac, “There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot. These essays are the delights and dilemmas of one who cannot.” Leopold is considered the father of wildlife ecology. He and his family participated in their own ecological restoration experiments on their land in Wisconsin. Outside the family shack you will still find a simple bench on which to sit. Here Leopold sat to watch, listen to and contemplate the natural world during the changes of season and changes made through their restoration efforts. He kept detailed logs of what he found there. Build your very own Leopold bench to place outside your home to watch and listen to the natural world around you. After our benches are built, we will find a quiet place to read from and discuss A Sand County Almanac. You must register by at least August 25 so materials can be purchased and prepared prior to this workshop.

Time: 8:00 AM          Cost: $50 each
