A fish kill was reported early this morning at the pond on the east side of Ottumwa Park. According to local officials, the majority of the dead fish were gizzard shad — a species often considered undesirable in local waterways.
The cause was determined to be low oxygen levels in the water, a common occurrence during the hot summer months. Officials say this is a natural event and poses no risk to the public.
