Hubert “Art” Steele, 84, of Eldon, IA passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA with Pastor John Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery immediately following the service. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home in Fairfield and will last until the time of service. Hubert Arthur Steele was born on April 26, 1940, in Ottumwa, IA to Herbert and Alice Woodard Steele. He attended school in Eldon and before graduation married the love of his life, Linda Tutor. The two began their journey as husband and wife on November 18, 1959. Together they were the loving parents of seven children. Art worked hard to support his family. He spent many years driving a pharmaceutical truck for McKesson Drug Company and then worked for the Packing plant in Ottumwa until his retirement. He was a dedicated employee and a member of the UFCW Local 230. Art always loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing on the river with family and was an avid hunter. Art cared deeply for his family and will be greatly missed.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Linda (2020); two children, Mark and Timothy Steele; a granddaughter, Nicole Steele; an infant great grandchild and two siblings, Raymond “Ted” Steele and Faye E. Boyd.
Left to honor his memory are his children, Billy (Shelly) Steele, Patti Steele, Mary Clark, Terry (Sheryl) Steele, and Tony Steele; twenty-one grandchildren, many great grandchildren; four siblings, Mary Alice (Jerry) Bickford, Judy Findlay, Joyce Mills, and Rebecca Howard; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Steele as well as many extended family and friends.
