Celebration of life gathering for William F. “Gray Wolf” Vickers of Bonaparte who died Thursday December 11, 2014 will be from 1-3 P.M. Sunday December 14, 2014 at the Farmington Rod and Gun Club located at 25771 Eagle Drive, Bonaparte, IA 52620.
William F. “Gray Wolf” Vickers, 86, of rural Bonaparte died at 8:21 A.M. Thursday December 11, 2014 in the emergency room of Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born May 22, 1928 at Bonaparte to William and Marjorie Pfeifer Vickers and married Betty J. Green July 20, 1951 in Bonaparte Baptist Church. Bill grew up in Bonaparte, graduated from Bonaparte High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He lived with his family in Georgia and Arizona 1957-1972 where he worked in a paper mill. After returning to his home town he worked at Fairfield Glove Company, Bonaparte and served 10 years on the Van Buren County Conservation Board. He also wrote for the Van Buren Leader-Record and Van Buren County Register newspapers. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his grandkids, eagle watching, hunting, fishing, walking his dogs and telling stories.
Surviving are his wife, Betty and two daughters, Bethany Pratt (Gene) and Tamera Shriver all of Bonaparte, a son, Troy Vickers (Liz) of Blue Eye, MO, 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Shriver and a great-granddaughter.
In accord with his wishes his body has been cremated and no services are planned. His cremains will be scattered on his land at a later date by his family. Memorials to Serve Outdoors Assn. or Lindsay Wilderness F und may be mailed to the family at 23044 Hawk Drive, Bonaparte, IA 52620. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua handled the cremation.
