The Van Buren County Warriors fell in their home opener to the Keokuk Chiefs 8-1

The first inning saw the Chiefs threaten when they would get runners to the corners before a fly-out ended the top of the first inning. The Warriors would be retired in order in the first. The second inning saw the game’s first run when a Cole Gillenwater sac fly would score Zach Meyers. Neither team would score over the next inning and a half as the Chiefs lead 1-0 after three innings. The Chiefs would add runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while the Warriors scored in the fourth on a Taylor Sprouse ground out to make the game sit at 3-1 after 5 innings. The Chiefs would have break out inning in the sixth. The Chiefs had three hits and two walks in the inning as they expanded the score to 7-1 after six innings. The Chiefs would win 8-1, and the Warriors would get runners on in the seventh but would not score.

With the win, the Keokuk Chiefs improve to 1-0, and the Warriors fall to 1-1 on the season. Up next for the Chiefs they travel to take on Central Dewitt on May 27th, for the Warriors they play host to Burlington Notre Dame on Monday. The Warriors game will be broadcast on KTWA 92.7 FM “Today’s Hits and Yesterday’s Favorites”.
