If local residents have a United States or Iowa flag that needs to be replaced, the Wapello County Republicans are offering a means of disposal.

According to Chairwoman Trudy Caviness, this will be the 17th year the local GOP party will be providing a way for people to properly dispose tattered or torn flags. They will be accepting worn flags Saturday, May 18 at Greater Ottumwa Park by the War Memorials from 8:00 to 11:00 AM.

Participants will receive a coupon from O’Hara Hardware to replace their flag. Additionally, their name will be put into a drawing to win an Iowa State flag that has been flown over the Iowa Capitol.
