Veldon D. King, 92, of Ottumwa, died at 1:50 p.m. September 29, 2020 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

He was born January 15, 1928 in Milan, MO to David and Nannie Dickerson King. Veldon married Wilma J. McCoy on December 21, 1945 and she preceded him in death on September 27, 2016.

Veldon was a veteran of World War II serving in the 91st Chemical Mortar Battalion attached to the U.S. Army Second Division.

Veldon began his career in real estate in 1955 and starting in 1971 he owned and operated King Realty, Ottumwa Realty and Century 21 Ottumwa Realty. He worked for 30 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works.

He was a member of Davis Street Christian Church where he had served as Deacon, Elder and Property Chairman for 30 years, served on the Ottumwa Board of Realtors and on the State and National Board of Realtors.

Veldon enjoyed traveling with his family and visited all 50 states including a road trip to Alaska in 2004.

Surviving is his daughter, Vicki (Jim) Agee of Ottumwa; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer (Michael) Peters of Cedar Falls and Nicole (Adam) Carros of Cedar Rapids; 4 great-grandchildren, Derek and Dylan Peters and Jack and Holly Carros.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Junior King, Bernie King and Fred King and sister, Imogene Claybrook.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3rd, at Davis Street Christian Church with Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. Veldon’s family asks all in attendance to wear masks or an appropriate face covering and adhere to the current social distancing guidelines.

Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.

Limited open visitation will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.rfh-ia.com.
